The Kimball Street bridge will be closed between State Street and North Grove Avenue starting at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, for critical repairs to the railroad tracks. The closure is expected to last approximately 15 hours.
Metra officials say the full closure is necessary due to the scope of the repairs and to ensure worker safety. By closing the crossing entirely, crews expect to complete the work in one day.
The Chicago Street bridge will remain open for eastbound traffic, the Highland Street bridge will be open for westbound traffic, and the National Street bridge will stay open in both directions.
Drivers are encouraged to follow detour signs and allow extra time for travel.
