Rock Island Trail at Legacy Loop now open

The Trails, Open Space and Parks (TOPS) tax-funded Rock Island Trail at Legacy Loopis now open after major improvements.

The final segment of trail includes more than 1.25 miles of widened concrete, new fencing and retaining wall and right of way improvements. The completed segment now provides off-street, safe, accessible routes for all trail users including walkers, runners and cyclists. The completion of this section provides a connection from the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail to the west to Shooks Run Trail and Templeton Gap Rd., completing the north segment of the Legacy Loop.

The work was funded thanks to grants from the Land Water Conservation and Colorado the Beautiful as well as from the Colorado Springs Trails, Open Space, and Parks (TOPS) sales tax program with a total investment of $3.12 million. The TOPS tax is a 0.1% sales and use tax that collects 1 penny for every ten dollars of eligible purchases in the City of Colorado Springs for trails, open space and parks.
