The Matthew J. Morahan III Health Assessment Center for Athletes at RWJBarnabas Health Recognized by the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey

The Matthew J. Morahan III Health Assessment Center for Athletes (Morahan Center) at RWJBarnabas Health was selected by the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey (BIANJ) Board of Trustees to receive the James and Sarah Brady Award.

This award is presented to an individual or group for public service based on an outstanding record of contributions that further the goals of the BIANJ through work at the federal, state, or local level.

"This is a very special state recognition of the Morahan Center. The Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey is the leading brain injury awareness non-profit organization in the state who strives to educate communities on brain injury, works with brain injury professionals on legislation and government affairs, and supports a state level committee for brain injury awareness," said Jason Krystofiak, MD, CAQSM, Section Chief of Sports Medicine at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, Medical Director of the Matthew J. Morahan III Health Assessment Center for Athletes, and Medical Director of Sports Medicine for RWJBarnabas Health.

"The Morahan Center's concussion screening program furthers RWJBarnabas Health's long-standing commitment to the health and well-being of children and young adults," said Diana Toto, MS, Administrative Director of Sports and Rehabilitation Medicine, who has overseen the Matthew J. Morahan III Health Assessment Center for Athletes at RWJBarnabas Health since 2011.

The program's concussion center has recently been accepted into publication at the largest concussion conference in the world, The International Conference on Concussion and Sport. The concussion program has also been recognized for its trademarked approach to care, the MORAHAN CAARPTM (Comprehensive Academic Active Recovery Plan). Under MORAHAN CAARPTM, the center regularly organizes and conducts classes, seminars, conferences, and workshops for medical treatment protocols and advanced care planning in the field of acute concussion recovery.

The Morahan Center at RWJBarnabas Health delivers a multidisciplinary approach using leading experts in their field, providing education, assessment and evaluation of sports injury and sports-related cardiac and concussion screenings. The Morahan Center offers one of the most comprehensive pre-season screening and concussion management centers in New Jersey, partners with over 30 primary, secondary and NCAA partnerships across the state of New Jersey and has provided nearly 40,000 screenings to youth sports athletes since 2010.

The BIANJ strives to improve the quality of life for anyone impacted by brain injury by providing support, advocacy, and information, while promoting brain injury prevention.
