Durham Water Management Honored With Its Second Sustained Excellence EPA WaterSense Award

Award is the Ninth Consecutive Award from EPA WaterSense

DURHAM, N.C. - After winning its first Sustained Excellence Award in 2023, the City of Durham Department of Water Management has been awarded with its second Sustained Excellence Award. Last year, the City reached nearly 4,322 Durham residents and businesses with water conservation and WaterSense messaging by participating in 36 outreach events and presentations, including festivals, concerts, and school outreach.

"We're honored to receive the WaterSense Sustained Excellence Award once again. This recognition is a testament to our team's unwavering dedication to water efficiency and the strong partnerships we've built with our community," said Department Director Don Greeley. "Together, we're making a meaningful impact on preserving this vital resource for future generations."

In 2023, the City participated in the following WaterSense campaigns: Fix-a-Leak Week, Your Better Yard, Flip Your Flapper, Your Better Bathroom/Shower Better, Sprinkler Spruce-Up, We're for Water, and When in Drought. The 36 outreach events included Environmental Fields Days with Durham County Soil and Water, Environmental Education Days with the Durham Bulls, Back to School events with Durham Public Schools, Adult Summer Camp with the NC Museum of Life and Science, CenterFest, the Durham Earth Day Festival, numerous school and civic group presentations, and more.

Durham Water Management continued to work with another WaterSense Partner, Waste Reduction Partners, to offer water auditing services to its larger non-residential customers. These voluntary audits allow Water Management to provide specialized services to a sector of our clients that may have unique or more complex water consumption needs.
