MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Dec. 16, 2024) - The American Water Charitable Foundation (AWCF), a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., and Pennsylvania American Water recently joined local elected officials and community leaders in a ceremonial ribbon-cutting to unveil a pocket park in downtown New Castle.
"Thanks to a generous American Water Charitable Foundation donation, we created a new park for downtown residents, employees, bicyclists, pedestrians, and visitors," said City of New Castle Citywide Development Corporation Director Brian Burick. "This park will serve as a vibrant hub for social gatherings and community events, enhancing the quality of life for everyone in New Castle."
The pocket park was made possible, in part, by a $150,000 donation from the American Water Charitable Foundation. It features a versatile green space ideal for hosting events and a dedicated dog area. It also includes a specialized water fountain equipped with a handicap-accessible spout, a water bottle filler, and a dog-friendly faucet.
"We are thrilled to join the AWCF in supporting the City of New Castle's creation of this pocket park - a small urban park designed for public use," said Justin Ladner, AWCF board member and president of Pennsylvania American Water. "This project aligns with our commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the local community."
