Oct 04, 2024 Ventura County Celebration of Books to be held at CSU Channel Islands

Oct. 4, 2024 - The Ventura County Celebration of Books is set for Saturday, Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on campus at CSU Channel Islands. Both the event and parking are free and open to the public. All ages are welcome - there will be activities for the whole family, including a special story time for kids, presented by CSUCI Early Childhood Studies students.

The event is co-presented by the Ventura County Library, CSU Channel Islands, and the Ventura County Library Foundation. Please see below for a full schedule of events.

11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Exhibits, food trucks, family activities North Quad Exhibits and food trucks open to the public.
Exhibitors will be on hand to chat with attendees and share information, including local authors, government and nonprofit agencies, and local businesses.
11 a.m. to noon The State of Homelessness in Ventura County Panel in the Grand Salon Grand Salon

Panelists: Doug Menges, Many Mansions; Jeffrey Lambert, Housing Authority of the City of San Buenaventura; Kay Wilson-Bolton, SPIRIT of Santa Paula; Jazmin Clark, Foster Youth Initiatives Coordinator at CSUCI; Bryan Tomlin, Associate Professor of Economics at CSUCI; and, Alicia Morales-McKinney, Ventura County Continuum of Care

noon to 1 p.m. CSUCI student-only reception with Dr. Jim O'Connell Petit Salon A special reception for CSU Channel Islands students featuring Dr. O'Connell will be held prior to the author event.
2 to 3 p.m. Speaker event with Dr. Jim O'Connell, inspiring advocate and subject of New York Times Bestseller, "Rough Sleepers" Grand Salon

The Ventura County Library's 2024 One County, One Book main presentation features a conversation with Dr. Jim O'Connell, inspiring advocate of the unhoused and subject of Rough Sleepers, NPR's "A Best Book of the Year" and New York Times Bestseller by Tracy Kidder. Moderated by the VC Star.
