Code Red Extended, Additional Charging Stations & Water Distribution Locations Opened

BALTIMORE, MD (Sunday, August 4, 2024) - Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott issued the following update regarding the severe storm that has caused significant power outages, downed trees, and property damage across the City of Baltimore.

The Baltimore City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) remains activated as the city continues to respond to the storm damage.

For updated weather forecasts and traffic conditions, residents should tune into local news stations, check social media resources and visit the city's Office of Emergency Management webpage.

Code Red Extension

The Baltimore City Health Department is extending the Code Red Declaration until Monday, August 5, 2024. This means that cooling centers will remain open and accessible for those who need them, including those without power. Residents who remain without power while BGE works to restore it are encouraged to take advantage of these sites.

Cooling center locations currently operating include:

  • ShopRite Howard Park, 4601 Liberty Heights Ave
    • Open to residents seeking relief from the heat and in need of charging capabilities during their normal operating hours.
  • My Sisters Place Women's Center, 17 W. Franklin St
    • Open to women and children only, 10:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
  • Weinberg Housing & Resource Center (WHRC), 620 Fallsway
    • Open 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Additional Charging Stations & Water Distribution Opened for Residents Without Power

In addition to the existing cooling center locations, the City is opening three additional locations to serve primarily as charging stations and water distribution sites in areas hardest hit by power outages. Residents who remain without power while BGE works to restore it are encouraged to take advantage of these sites in order to stay connected to loved ones and up to date on the current recovery situation.

Additional sites will be open from 12:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. today for cooling and charging only:

  • C. C. Jackson Recreation Center, 4910 Park Heights Ave
  • Rita Church Community Center, 2101 St. Lo Drive
  • Cahill Recreation Center, 4001 Clifton Ave

311 Service Requests, Ongoing Road Clearing Efforts, and Traffic Light Outages

As of 10:49am, crews from various city agencies - with support from crews from the City of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County - are continuing to respond to hundreds of service requests including more than 200 downed trees that remain on our streets and more than 80 traffic light disruptions.

Crews worked through the night and are continuing to work removing debris. Since we are prioritizing clearing roads, crews may leave behind tree debris once roadways are clear. We will go back to clear the remainder of debris next week.

Traffic Enforcement Officers (TEOs) and Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers are being deployed to critical intersections with signal disruptions as we work to get all signals fully operational.

Residents are encouraged to continue reporting downed trees, traffic light outages, or any other storm-related service requests by calling 311 or by using the 311 app to submit them.

BGE Outage Updates

As of 11:03 a.m. on August 4, 2024, BGE reported 604 outages impacting 20,134 customers in Baltimore City. BGE crews are actively responding to weather-related power outages.

If you experience a power outage or need to report a downed wire, please call 877.778.2222. BGE asks all customers to report their outage. Outages may also be reported online, by texting OUT to MYBGE (69243), and via BGE's free mobile app available at the Apple Store or GooglePlay.

BGE crews work as safely and quickly as possible to restore power. City agencies have been in contact with BGE to help coordinate efforts.
