LAS VEGAS - Today, NAACP President and CEO, Derrick Johnsonaddressed convention attendees about the importance of refocusing our collective attention and avoiding distractions ahead of the presidential election. President Johnson underscored the shared duty we have to work together during this crucial time for our democracy.

NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson shared the following statement:

"History matters. Without understanding where we've come from as a people, we cannot properly navigate the road ahead. The NAACP works to remain as a key pillar within Black America - educating our community from coast to coast and providing the resources necessary to turn out the vote in every election. We must remember, this election season is not about candidates, it is about our future. Through fostering relationships with leaders across our nation, such as the dedicated Governor of Maryland Mr. Wes Moore and the fearless Attorney General of Nevada Mr. Aaron Ford, we forge a path forward where Black people can thrive. It is through our democratic process that we elect officials who fight for an America where equity is prioritized for all. It is through the casting of our ballots that we see real change in policy and legislation in this country. We must be all in this election season - our future is fully dependent on it."

The NAACP has a decades-long history of empowering Black voters to use their voices at the ballot box. Today, welcome addresses were given by distinguished guests and dignitaries including Michael Regan, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Governor Wes Moore (D-MD), Judge Gregory Mathis, Chairman of Rainbow PUSH Excel, Attorney General Aaron Ford (NV), and more. The Association continues to utilize collaboration and strategy to mobilize voters, advocate on their behalf, and equip them with essential knowledge on the issues that matter most to them.
