Official visit of H.E Mr. Alberto van Klaveren, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chile (August 27-31, 2024)

At the invitation of External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar (EAM), H.E. Mr. Alberto van Klaveren, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chile (FM) paid an official visit to India from 27 to 31 August 2024.

2.​ On 28th August, FM van Klaveren co-chaired, along with EAM, the 2nd India-Chile Joint Commission Meeting (JCM); met with Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry (CIM) and inaugurated the Chile-India Business (Agriculture) Summit and delivered lecture at School of International studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

3.​ During the JCM, the Ministers reviewed bilateral relations and held wide-ranging discussions for strengthening cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture, critical minerals, digital public infrastructures, defence, railways, health & pharmaceuticals, science and technology, Antarctica and space, and people to people ties. The two Ministers also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest and reiterated commitment to closer cooperation in multilateral fora.

4.​ During the meeting between Commerce and Industries Minister Shri Piyush Goyal and visiting FM, the ministers discussed way-forward for deepening and diversifying bilateral trade and economic relations. FM van Klaveren also delivered a lecture on Chile's foreign policy to a gathering of diplomats, faculty and students, at the School of International studies, JNU.

5.​ During his visit to Mumbai on 29 & 30 August, FM van Klaveren visited Tata Consultancy Services and Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) Masala market and participated in Chilean wine-tasting event. He also spoke at the 'shooting in Chile' event that showcased Chile as a potential destination for Indian film productions. The visit of FM van Klaveren provided an opportunity to review the progress in bilateral cooperation and helped in advancing India-Chile ties further.
