California-based members had the opportunity to meet with local and state union officials.

California-based SAG-AFTRA members attended the California Federation of Labor Unions Biennial Convention on July 16-17 in San Diego. Among those present were 14 California member delegates from the Los Angeles, San Francisco-Northern California and San Diego Locals, as well as National Board member and L.A. Government Affairs and Public Policy Co-Chair Sean Astin.

The biennial convention provides an opportunity for union members across the state to speak with and meet with more than 600 public- and private-sector union leaders. This year's event featured speakers, trainings and other actions, including officer elections and passing official resolutions and policy positions. There were also opportunities to meet with AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler and local and state elected leaders.

Astin delivered a keynote address during the convention's dinner banquet on July 17. In addition to thanking the federation for its support during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA TV/Theatrical/Streaming strike - and commemorating the strike's one-year anniversary - he called for continued solidarity among California union workers.

"A future where every worker in California is unionized is absolutely a possibility. Imagine what a future that will be - where everyone can afford rent, groceries, health care and transportation. So let's raise our voices as workers and make that future a reality," said Astin.

The California Federation of Labor Unions promotes and defends the interests of working people and their families for the betterment of California's communities. The Federation currently consists of 1,300 affiliated unions, including SAG-AFTRA.
