Klobuchar Statement on Department of Justice Antitrust Lawsuit Against Google

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Chair of the Subcommittee on Competition Policy, Antitrust, and Consumer Rights, issued the statement below following the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ruling in favor of the Department of Justice, finding that Google is a monopolist in the online search market and has illegally abused its monopoly power in violation of the Sherman Act.

"For years Google has used its dominance in online search markets to undermine rivals and limit competition. I have long been calling for action. The Justice Department took this on and won," said Klobuchar. "This is a huge victory for the American people and shows the importance of enforcing our antitrust laws and why I am advocating for competition rules of the road for big tech companies. If they keep fighting any sensible rules of the road they will keep getting sued - and will keep losing."

Klobuchar has long been the leading Senate advocate for taking on Big Tech monopolies. Klobuchar introduced and passed bipartisan legislation through the Senate Judiciary Committee to limit Big Tech's monopoly power. In addition, Klobuchar has led hearings on Google's online dominance.
