Moulton Announces $1.6 Million in Federal Firefighter Assistance Grants to Sixth District

SALEM, MA - Congressman Seth Moulton announced that a number of fire departments and emergency medical service organizations across the North Shore will receive a total of $1.6 million in Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) grants.

The federal funding is part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG), which was created in 2001 to help firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.

The following AFG grants have been awarded to Sixth District communities.

• The Lynnfield Fire Department will receive $708,818 for Firefighter Training. This is a regional award also benefiting Danvers FD, Middleton FD, North Reading FD, and Peabody FD
  
• The Georgetown Fire Department will receive $614,729 for Portable Radios. This is a regional award also benefitting Amesbury FD, Groveland FD, and Merrimac FD
  
• The Nahant Fire Department will receive $163,523 for a Firefighter Breathing Apparatus and an RIT Pack
  
• The Beverly Fire Department will receive $102,973 for Firefighter Bailout Kits and Training.
  
• The Reading Fire Department will receive $84,561 for Firefighter Training.

Additional grant recipients may be announced later this summer.
