In Case You Missed It, U.S. Senator Tom Carper joined U.S. Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester (both D-Del.) to announce a combined $3.4 million to combat homelessness and improve mental health resources in Delaware last week. During visits to both the New Castle County Hope Center and Nemours Children's Health, they highlighted how the funding, which was also secured by U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.), will aid each facilities' mission to combat the root causes of homelessness and provide both physical and mental health care for children, respectively. With congressionally directed spending, the New Castle County Hope Center was awarded $1.9 million and Nemours Children's Health was awarded $1.5 million.

Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester and Sen. Tom Carper visited Nemours Children's Health Monday to tout federal funding headed there to address kids' mental health needs.
Nemours' Innovative Mental Health Pathways for Adolescent and Child Therapists or IMPACT Program is receiving $1.5 million.
[…] Carper says it makes sense to invest in the experience the staff at Nemours brings to mental healthcare.
"My whole life, one of the guiding principles for me is to find out what works and do more of that and as it turns out, we have a pretty good idea of what works in some cases like when for kids," said Carper "We've had the folks here have had years of experience working with families working with children."
Carper adds combining these federal dollars with state and local funding can make a difference in helping Delawareans facing the most pressing issues.

The New Castle County Hope Center is getting more than $1 million to make improvements. Senator Tom Carper and Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester spoke at the Center today about the $1.9 million spending grant. The Hope Center will use the money to better its services, which include providing those in need a place to stay and help with job placement. It will also make building improvements, including transforming the existing swimming school into a multi-purpose space to be used for a 24-hour drop-in shelter.

New Castle County Executive Matt Mayer, U.S. Sen. Tom Carper and U.S. Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester were on hand for a ceremony marking $1.9 million in funding for the Hope Center.
The money will be used to convert the pool area into a specific capital project, including converting the pool room into a multi-purpose space that can be used as a potential 24-hour drop-in shelter, renovating the concierge lounge on the 5th floor to a kitchen and replacing carpets for durable flooring in 160 rooms.
Funding will also support the continued transportation shuttle service offered seven days a week so that Hope Center participants can travel to employment, doctor appointments, and other services. […]
