FSU Grad Awarded $8,500 in 2024 Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship Competition

Frostburg State University graduate Madison Davis was recently awarded an $8,500 fellowship by The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi - the nation's oldest and most selected collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

Nominated by FSU's chapter president, Dr. Linda Steele, Davis is among more than 60 recipients across the nation to receive this award.

"I am extremely honored to have been selected to receive a Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship," said Davis. "I will begin my studies at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs this fall as a Phi Kappa Phi Fellow where I will pursue my Master of Public Administration, concentrating on climate, energy and environmental policy."

The Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship Program has been in operation since 1932. The 62 fellowships awarded this year totaled nearly $650,000. The society's fellowships provide students on chapter campuses opportunities to earn study abroad grants, graduate fellowships, funding for post-baccalaureate development, member and chapter awards and grants for local, national and international literacy initiatives.

Recipients were selected for fellowships based on their graduate potential, academic achievements in their undergraduate studies and service and leadership experience. Applicants were also required to submit letters of recommendation and personal statements of their career goals.

"I am extremely grateful for Phi Kappa Phi for investing in my future," said Davis. "I am especially grateful for Dr. Steele and Frostburg State University for providing the space to pursue this opportunity."

Davis, of Severn, Md., earned her bachelor's in political science from FSU in 2022.
