The public is invited to join Peoria County's GIS Department as they celebrate GIS Day on Wednesday, November 20 from 1-4 pm at the Peoria County Courthouse, Room G10. GIS, which stands for geographic information system, has its roots in geography and is a framework for gathering, organizing, and interpreting data.
"GIS helps people access data in a meaningful way," said GIS Manager Joshua Thompson. "Our popular Front Desk Application shows detailed property information, but we have a whole host of dashboards that pull together community data. These range from opioids in our region, crime mapping, election districts, and more."
At GIS Day, team members will be on hand to demonstrate the use of the Front Desk and Equity applications and answer questions. They will show participants how to locate property boundaries, find property tax information and jurisdictions, and where to look for a variety of statistics on education, health, housing, and more. Plus, there will be a guessing game and map activity with prizes.
