Maputo, Mozambique - The International Republican Institute's (IRI) International Election Observation Mission (IEOM) today released a statement on recent political violence in Mozambique:

The International Republican Institute (IRI) condemns the recent political violence in Mozambique, including the killing of key political figures. Such actions have no place in a democratic society and further erode the integrity of the electoral process.

We call on all parties to exercise restraint and ensure a peaceful resolution during this critical post-electoral period. IRI urges Mozambican authorities to conduct a transparent investigation and prioritize the protection of political actors and fundamental rights, upholding the democratic process with integrity and respect for the will of the people.

Declaração do IRI sobre a Violência Política em Moçambique

O Instituto Republicano Internacional (IRI) condena a recente violência política em Moçambique, em particular o recente assassinato de importantes figuras políticas. Ações como esta não têm espaço numa sociedade democrática e contribuem para a deterioração da integridade do processo eleitoral.

Apelamos a todos os intervenientes que exerçam contenção e assegurem um ambiente pacifico durante este período critico do pós-eleitoral. O IRI apela às autoridades moçambicanas para levar a cabo uma investigação de forma transparente e garantir a proteção dos atores políticos e seus direitos fundamentais, assegurando um processo eleitoral integro e baseado no respeito pela vontade do povo.
