Washington County Elections publishes new educational video on vote by mail process

Media release

Posted July 31, 2024

In an effort to inform and empower voters, Washington County is excited to announce the release of a new informative video that unpacks the vote-by-mail process and gives you a behind the scenes look at the rules and procedures our election workers follow to ensure our election system runs smoothly and securely. This educational video aims to demystify the vote-by-mail process and inform voters of the journey their ballot goes on after they have returned it to the election's office either through an Official Ballot Dropbox or through the United States Postal Service.

The video, produced by Washington County Elections Office, offers a comprehensive look on the following topics:

  • Ballot handling, sorting, counting, and storage
  • Ballot inspection and signature verification processes
  • Ongoing security measures and procedures in place to protect the integrity of our elections

"Washington County Elections is committed to helping our communities better understand how the elections process works at the county level" said Dan Forester, Elections Manager for Washington County. "This video is part of our broader effort to educate and empower voters by making the voting process as transparent and accessible as possible".

The video is now available in both English and Spanish on Washington County's YouTube page and will be shared across the county's social media platforms.

Those who may be interested in touring our elections office are encouraged to reach out to Washington County Elections, by calling 503-846-5800, to schedule a tour of the facility. Elections-related resources can be found at WashCoVotes.org.
