Microsoft and dLocal forge a strategic alliance and share the advances of Artificial Intelligence in the Fintech sector in Uruguay

As a customer-centric company, our goal at dLocal is always to provide more and better business solutions for our merchants, and for the more than 160 million people who complete payments through our platform every year. Applying Artificial Intelligence is a central resource to achieve our business success metrics, maximize operations, generate more markets, improve approval rates, guarantee secure transactions and ensure regulatory compliance.

In that sense, dLocal and Microsoft have announced a landmark partnership to integrate cutting-edge AI solutions into the fintech sector, at an event held at Microsoft's AI Innovation Lab in Montevideo, one of the company's four facilities outside the United States.

This long-term agreement underscores both companies' commitment to driving digital transformation and improving financial inclusion in emerging markets, where dLocal operates in more than 40 geographies, trusted by the world's most demanding and sophisticated technology companies.

During the presentation at Microsoft LAB, Sergio Fogel, Co-Founder of dLocal, and Roberto Icasuriaga, Director of Small and Medium Business and Digital Natives for Latin America at Microsoft, shared their experiences on the use of AI.

"We are delighted to join forces with Microsoft to push the boundaries of what is possible in the fintech space. This collaboration will allow us to offer superior services to our customers and users, ensuring smooth, secure and efficient financial transactions," said Sergio Fogel.

"Partnering with dLocal is a great opportunity for Microsoft to bring the power of AI to the fintech industry in all markets where dLocal operates. We are committed to driving digital transformation and improving financial inclusion through our cutting-edge technologies," commented Roberto Icasuriaga.

Likewise, Mauricio Clausen, head of dLocal's Engineering team, elaborated on the wide universe of AI use cases in fintech, with the following concepts:

  • AI is a powerful tool to scale the fintech business, from the use of more traditional Machine Learning techniques, to more recently the use of models and tools based on Generative AI.
  • One of the projects that we are most proud of and that has given us great results in dLocal is what is known in the industry as Smart Routing. It consists of using Artificial Intelligence to decide by which of the possible routes we should send each transaction, in order to maximize the chance of that transaction being approved, taking into consideration the characteristics of the transaction and the behavior of each processor.
  • AI allows us to streamline processes and maximize our clients' business, with less conversion losses, and with fast intelligent adaptation to any change of context. This allows us to be leaders and provide the best possible service in each market and for each payment method.
  • Today there are no barriers to knowledge in information technology and Artificial Intelligence, they are available to everyone, so the differential is in the knowledge in the industry. Just as in dLocal we use Microsoft's Copilot, there are many productivity tools for Excel spreadsheets, for the generation of marketing leads or oriented to legal teams, for the review of contracts, among many other uses.

We at dLocal are excited to join this project with Microsoft, in order to carry on unlocking the power of emerging markets.
