Rollin’ into the Weekend Like: Jochen Mass in a Porsche 962

I adored Group C endurance racing as a kid-not that it was exactly easy to catch on TV. But every magazine photo I ever saw of the cars that populated the category fascinated me. Those Silk Cut Jaguar XJRs, the Lancia LC2, the Mercedes C11, various Mazdas culminating with the 787B, and, my favorites, the Porsche 956 and 962.

I've been doing some research lately for an upcoming story about the Porsche 962, which succeeded the mighty 956, and I was shocked to realize that it made its racing debut 40 years ago. Some of the greatest drivers in the world piloted those 962s-Hans Stuck, Derek Bell, Al Holbert, Jochen Mass . . .

Now that it's Friday afternoon, and I've got nothing better to do-and I hope you don't, either-please enjoy 10 incredible minutes onboard with Mass in a 962 at Spa-Francorchamps, 1985. Have you seen any great old racing footage lately?
