Major milestone reached in Santa Clara Community Park construction

On Sept. 19, the pedestrian bridge connecting the north and south sections of Santa Clara Community Park was dropped into place, marking a major milestone in the first phase of park construction.

The 35 acre community park site currently comprises two open fields with informal walking paths on the north and east sides of Madison Middle School, off Wilkes Drive.

Most of the work so far has been laying the groundwork for the park amenities that the community will enjoy. The restroom structure is almost complete, the play areas are being prepped for playground equipment installation and many of the concrete paths and trails have been laid.

Phase one of construction will include a large playground, restroom, parking lot, outdoor community gathering space, picnic shelter, open lawn, multipurpose field and tree planting. The Eugene Parks Foundation will fund a spray play feature for the park.

This phase of construction is expected to be complete with the park opening in 2025. Future phases of park development will include a community center and pool, court sports, additional shelters, dog park and a community garden. Learn more about the Santa Clara Community Park master plan.

Phase one of the Santa Clara Community Park development is funded by the voter-approved 2018 Parks and Recreation bond and Parks and Recreation System Development Charges. The project was also awarded a grant of $528,000 by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department through the Local Government Grant Program. The 2023 Parks and Recreation Levy provides funds for operations and maintenance when the project is complete.
