Founded in 1934 as Aeronaves de México, Aeromexico, as it is now called, has evolved from its early domestic flights to become Mexico's global airline. Over the years, Aeromexico has solidified its role in global aviation, joining the SkyTeam alliance in 2000 and establishing itself as a key gateway between the United States and Mexico through its hub in Mexico City.

A highlight of the anniversary celebration is the presentation of a unique mixed-media artwork by renowned Mexican-American artist Yehimi Cambrón. This special piece, gifted by Delta to Aeromexico, embodies the theme of "connection" that is central to the milestone. The artwork, featuring the Monarch butterfly, reflects its profound cultural significance in Mexico and its annual migration between the U.S. and Mexico - a journey that parallels the extensive network of flights operated by both airlines.

Yehimi Cambrón, born in Michoacán, Mexico, and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, is known for her evocative work focusing on the immigrant experience. Her murals in Atlanta highlight the presence and humanity of immigrants, underscoring their complex stories and contributions. The Monarch butterfly, central to this artwork, symbolizes not only cultural ties but also the intricate tapestry of connections fostered by Delta and Aeromexico's partnership.

"We are proud to celebrate this important milestone for our friends and partners at Aeromexico. When we learned about the Monarch butterfly's remarkable migration, we immediately thought about the vital connections between the U.S. and Mexico and the important role Aeromexico and Delta play in that connection", said Alex Antilla, Delta's Vice President for Latin America. "This artwork beautifully symbolizes the deep and enduring partnership between Aeromexico and Delta, reflecting our shared journey and mutual commitment to building a bright future together, for our companies, our countries and the communities we serve."

In addition, in celebration of its 90th anniversary, Aeromexico is introducing a refreshed brand image for its aircraft. This update features an evolved version of the classic Caballero Aguila emblem from 1959. The new design, which will grace the airline's fleet, represents the brand's growth by embodying warmth, modernity, and a vibrant portrayal of contemporary Mexico.

Aeromexico's 90-year history is a testament to its unwavering commitment to connecting people and places, marking this anniversary as a significant milestone in the airline's storied legacy. This dedication to connection is further strengthened through the Joint Cooperation Agreement (JCA) with Delta, which has significantly expanded their network. Since December 2023, the number of routes has grown from 53 to 70, linking 13 Mexican airports to 26 U.S. airports. By the end of 2024, the JCA will support over 110 daily flights between Mexico and the U.S. across nearly 70 routes, reinforcing the vital partnership between these two airlines.
