NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (November 3, 2024) - City police have launched a year-long traffic safety campaign to make the roads even safer.
The department will focus on educating the community and further enforcing traffic laws related to pedestrian safety, distracted driving, impaired driving, and speeding.
This high-visibility campaign is funded by a $77,000 grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Data shows that distracted driving, including texting or talking on the phone, are major factors in crashes. The New Brunswick P.D. urges drivers to put down their phones and focus on safe driving.
Officers will also continue to target impaired drivers, who pose a serious threat to others on the road. Police encourage drivers to use alternative transportation if they've been drinking or are under the influence and emphasize the importance of safe choices behind the wheel.
Additional enforcement and educational initiatives will focus on pedestrian safety, speeding, and seatbelt violations. Residents with traffic concerns can always contact the Traffic Safety Enforcement Unit at
