UPDATE: Animal Services dog adoption operations partially re-open at shelter

Santa Rosa County Animal Services (SRCAS) dog adoption operations partially re-opened at the shelter today, Mon., Oct. 7.The dogs kenneled in the offices and lobby as well as the 'holding' areas are cleared for adoption. However, adoptions in the main dog kennel run remain closed but are expected to be cleared on Mon., Oct. 14. Cat adoptions are still open.

Normal dog adoption operations have been closed for the past two weeks due to a bacterial illness called Mycoplasma cynos. SRCAS shelter and medical staff continue to treat the affected dogs.

"Our team has been taxed but has done an awesome job navigating this situation," said Randy Lambert, Animal Services Chief. "I want to thank our community for all the outreach of support and we look forward to getting back to business as usual."

The shelter will continue with scheduled offsite adoption eventsthis week, only bringing dogs cleared of the illness or currently in foster care.
