20 victims of Human Trafficking who were forced into cybercrimes in Myanmar were rescued by the NAHTTF

The National Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force (NAHTTF) conducting a successful rescue operation liberated 20 Sri Lankans unlawfully employed in cybercrimes in Myanmar, under the control of a criminal syndicate.

This operation was a result of coordinated efforts among various entities, including the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Myanmar, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Thailand, the Criminal Investigation Division of Sri Lanka, the BIMSTEC Sub-Group on Human Trafficking, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, NGOs' in Myanmar and Thailand, as well as local and international media and numerous social activists.

The operation specifically targeted a criminal syndicate engaged in the exploitation and coercion of individuals for online scamming activities. The successful execution of this rescue operation stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication and relentless effects of the NAHTTF and its collaborative partners. This joint initiative underscores the efficacy of unity and cooperation in the on-going fight against human trafficking, both domestically and internationally.

In the aftermath of this operation, comprehensive measures are being implemented to provide essential care and support to the victims of human trafficking. This includes psychological assistance, social reintegration, legal support, and other necessary services in collaboration with relevant international and local agencies, departments, commissions, and authorities. The Ministry of Defence, as the chair of the NAHTTF, extends its profound gratitude to all members of the Task Force and to the various partners involved in this significant rescue operation.
