Students Enjoy Drone Show, Fireworks and More at Tennessee Saturday Night

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville's Division of Student Life hosted its second annual Tennessee Saturday Night on Aug. 17, welcoming new and returning students to campus with an energetic evening of activities and entertainment.

Approximately 6,000 students attended the event, learning about the services offered by 20 of the division's offices while enjoying live music from DJ Sterl the Pearl, interactive activities like dodgeball and arts and crafts and an appearance from Smokey. A drone light show and fireworks display closed out the night.

"We want every student to find their home on Rocky Top," said Frank Cuevas, vice chancellor for the Division of Student Life. "It's part of the Volunteer experience. We try to cultivate opportunities for our students to find their home and find their community so they feel like this is the place they belong."

Desai Carter, a first-year student from Ontario, Canada, studying kinesiology, shared his excitement about being part of UT's spirited environment and campus community.

"I'm excited for the atmosphere," said Carter. "We don't have anything like this back home, so I'm looking forward to starting classes and taking it all in."

Owen Seibert, a sophomore studying finance from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, said he enjoyed seeing his fellow students engaging with the university.

"Tennessee Saturday Night has made me excited for the new year," said Seibert. "Students should be participating in everything they can and making the most of their time at UT, so it makes me excited to see students - especially first-years - getting involved on campus."

The Division of Student Life provides the daily services students need to thrive at UT, including student engagement and leadership opportunities. Events like Tennessee Saturday Night align with the division's mission to bring Volunteers together and provide them with engaging transformational experiences.
