Investigation into Fatal Crash at 9600 Southwest Freeway

August 16, 2024- Houston police have learned a male involved in a crash at 9600 Southwest Freeway (South Interstate Highway 59) about 2:30 a.m. on June 18 has died.

The identity of the deceased victim, 69, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Hall and South Gessner patrol officers reported:

The driver of a black Acura RDX was traveling northeast on the freeway at the above address when she struck a red Toyota Tacoma pickup truck pulling a trailer. The impact caused the Toyota's trailer to pivot into another lane of traffic and was then struck by the driver of a grey Freightliner tractor-trailer truck.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital. Doctors pronounced him deceased on August 9. The driver of the Freightliner was uninjured.

The driver of the Acura, identified as Jessica Luty, 33, was found to be intoxicated and arrested at the scene. Luty was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated - 2nd offense in Harris County Criminal Court #7.

The investigation is continuing.
