Boston Scientific, the maker of the new, state of the art FARAPULUSE™ Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) System, recognized Dr. Ashish Bhatia of Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute this week as the country's most prolific user of the new, state-of-the-art technology.
Launched in March, the FARAPULSE™ Pulsed Field Ablation System has dramatically changed the nature of cardiac ablation procedures used to treat patients with irregular heart rhythms.
Unlike traditional ablation methods that rely on extreme temperatures to eliminate problematic heart tissue, the FARAPULSE™ PFA System utilizes tissue-specific electric fields. This new technology helps minimize risks to surrounding structures.
Dr. Bhatia has performed 338 cases since March without a single complication, he explained, emphasizing how the new technology has significantly improved success rates, even among patients who've already had one or more unsuccessful traditional ablations.
BGMC/GVI is the first hospital located between Cleveland and New York City to use this technology.
"The new technology is leaps and bounds ahead of what we were used to," said Dr. Bhatia. "We were one of the first centers in the country to start doing this procedure, and now we are one of the most experienced centers in the world doing it. It's so exciting, and so gratifying. It took a tremendous amount of teamwork to get to this point."
