Volusia County is currently under a tornado watch effective until 9 p.m. this evening. Conditions are favorable for tornado formation, and the community should remain aware of the threat.

The National Weather Service forecasts winds of 50 to 60 mph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 80 mph. These conditions pose a significant risk of damage from tornadoes, including:

  • Roof and wall failures in sturdy buildings
  • Severe damage to buildings and mobile homes
  • Large trees being snapped or twisted
  • Vehicles and small boats being tossed or severely damaged

The community is advised to monitor local weather updates and be prepared to act if conditions worsen. It is crucial to have a safety plan in place, including identifying safe locations and ensuring emergency supplies are readily available.

Volusia County staff will continue coordinating with state officials and the National Weather Service to assess potential local impacts from the storm.
