Update: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 7100 Orville Street

September 12, 2024- Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a man at 7100 Orville Street about 11:10 p.m. on Sunday (August 25).

The suspect, Jolun Rodgers, 20, is charged with murder in the 185th State District Court. A booking photo of Rodgers is attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Elijah Heyliger, 21.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Duncan, Detectives J. Diaz, V. Nguyen and A. Hernandez reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call near the above address and found an unresponsive man lying in the street. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

At that time, the suspect was described only as a black male.

Further investigation identified the suspect as Rodgers. On Wednesday (Sept. 11), he was arrested and charged for his role in the death of Mr. Heyliger.
