(WASHINGTON)-The National Symphony Orchestra opens its 2024-2025 season with a variety of concerts featuring classics, new works, and collaborations with celebrated musical artists.

"It is a joy for me to be returning to Washington, D.C., to open my eighth season as Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra. The artists of the NSO and I are excited to welcome some of the world's greatest artists to the Concert Hall stage to bring to life a wide range of programming in these opening weeks. These concerts include my friends Composer-in-Residence Carlos Simon, soprano Renée Fleming, and pianist Leif Ove Andnses, as well as artists with whom I am looking forward to working for the first time, including pianist Yunchan Lim on opening night. We will take our devoted audience on an incredible musical journey and look forward to sharing the beauty of live music with our community," said Music Director Gianandrea Noseda, The Roger Sant and Congresswoman Doris Matsui Chair.

Eugene Rogers Conducts
Eugene Rogers will conduct the NSO in a concert celebrating classic and contemporary American composers on September 14, 2024, joined by Grammy Award®-winning bass-baritone Morris Robinson and The Washington Chorus. The program will include Aaron Copland's Suite from Billy the Kid, selections from his Old American Songs, and Jessie Montgomery's Banner. Concluding the program is Here I Stand-a new NSO co-commission by Carlos Simon and librettist Dan Harder.

Season Opening Gala Concert
The annual Season Opening Gala Concert, September 28, 2024, will be led by Music Director Gianandrea Noseda and feature Yunchan Lim-the youngest-ever winner of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition-in his NSO debut as a soloist. The program begins with Four Black American Dances by Kennedy Center Composer-in-Residence Carlos Simon, whose works are featured in the NSO's latest series of digital downloads and a CD on its own label. This will be followed by Mel Bonis' three short pieces Pavane, Sarabande, and Bourrée, Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2, with Yunchan Lim as soloist, and Maurice Ravel's La Valse.

Music Director Gianandrea Noseda Three-Week Residency
The first three NSO subscription programs will all feature music by Richard Strauss, with each concert celebrating one of the three major areas of his compositional life: song, orchestral tone poems, and opera.

Noseda will conduct Richard Strauss' Four Last Songs, October 3-5, 2024, featuring soprano Rachel Willis-Sørensen in her NSO debut. Carlos Simon's Four Black American Dances and Ludwig van Beethoven's iconic Symphony No. 5 complete the program.

Pianist Leif Ove Andsnes returns to the Kennedy Center the following week with a program also featuring works by Beethoven and Strauss. Andsnes will join Noseda and the NSO for Beethoven's "Emperor" Piano Concerto, followed by Strauss' tone poem and musical self-portrait, Ein Heldenleben, October 10-13, 2024.

The following week, October 17-19, 2024, marks the return to the Kennedy Center of soprano Renée Fleming, Kennedy Center Artistic Advisor-at-Large and 2023 Kennedy Center Honoree. Fleming will join Noseda and the NSO in a program featuring music from Strauss' opera Capriccio, with Brahms' Symphony No. 1 in the second half.
