Heritage Village treatment plant construction progresses on schedule

Southbury, Conn., Aug. 1, 2024- Construction of the new, $6.3 million water treatment plant progresses on schedule, which will improve drinking water quality for Heritage Village water system customers.

D'Amato Construction of Bristol recently poured the foundation for the plant, located off Heritage Road near the Pomperaug Golf Course. The project is not anticipated to interrupt or disrupt current service operation in the Heritage Village water system while construction takes place.

The Heritage Village water system is comprised of five groundwater wells capable of producing 2 million gallons per day to more than 5,400 customers, about half of which reside in the Heritage Village Master Association. The existing water treatment facility will continue operating during the construction project until all wells can be redirected through the new treatment facility.

Project design started in early 2022, with final project specifications/drawings generated late 2023. Engineers designed the building exterior to match the appearance of the Village.

Existing wells will supply the new facility, which, when complete, will allow for more effective filtration of manganese and iron, both naturally-occurring components of groundwater. This multimillion dollar investment in infrastructure will Improve water clarity and taste for customers.

The new facility is expected to be in service in the fall of 2025.
