Sharks edge Seawolves in final minutes, 62-59

Honolulu (Nov. 8) - Alaska Anchorage guards Sean Evans and Tyler Burraston scored 13 points apiece, but Hawaii Pacific used a late 6-0 run to earn a 62-59 men's basketball victory Friday night at the Shark Tank.

The Seawolves (2-4) also got eight points from Bishop Tosi and seven points from Malik Jackson, who sank jumpers for a pair of one-point leads in the final four minutes.

The Sharks (1-0) were led by 15 points from guard Joshua West, while forward Charlie Weber scored the go-ahead basket with two minutes left and finished with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting.

Meeting as non-conference rivals for the ninth straight season, the entire game was played within a nine-point window, featuring five ties and eight lead changes. Despite those figures, UAA played catch-up most of the night, pulling within 27-25 on a basket by John McFadden (6 pts, 3 rebs) just before halftime.

HPU pushed its largest second-half advantage to 43-37 before the Seawolves got consecutive scores from Evans and Burraston to tie it. The game stayed within two possessions the rest of the way, and UAA retook the lead at 55-54 on a trey by Jackson with 3:11 left.

Jackson answered another Sharks field goal with one to make it 57-56, before Weber made it four lead changes in a 67-second span with his layup at the 2:04 mark. Sharks guard Avi Alpert stole the ball and dished an assist to West for a 60-57 lead, and the Sharks clinched it when West grabbed a steal in the final 10 seconds that led to two free throws.

Evans shot 4 of 8 from the field (2-5 3FG), along with four rebounds and three assists, while Burraston shot 4 of 7 from deep with three boards.

Jesse Stines had five points and led UAA with five rebounds.

The Seawolves conclude their Hawaii trip with a 6 p.m. AST tip Saturday against Chaminade at McCabe Gymnasium. Find live video (PPV-$) and stats links at GoSeawolves.com.
