New Term, New Team: Introducing UON’s Police Team…

A small team of police officers dedicated to the safety of the University of Northampton has been bolstered by five new members.

The team now consists of PCs Eleanor Jones, Macsen Allery, Harry Juland, Frank Clasper and Richard Umney and is led by Sergeant Jamie Longrigg.

For more than five years, the select team of police officers - consisting of one sergeant and five constables - have been working alongside University security and safety staff.

Based on site, the team focuses specifically on University activities and provides services that are above the core policing provided by Northants Police - such as safety advice, developing the capabilities of University security staff, and high visibility patrolling of the campus, external student accommodation and routes to and from town.

The police team is funded by the University to work on campus activities as well in the local community to ensure no additional burden on the taxpayer or reduction in policing in and around Northampton.

Former Sergeant of the UON Police Team, Lorna Clarke was commended for her and the team's tireless, diligent and professional work as part of an investigation conducted around campus last year.

Sergeant Longrigg said: "The University of Northampton places a huge emphasis on the safety of its staff and students, and I'm excited to continue leading the policing team which already has a well-established, close relationship with its staff and students.

"The new members of the team and I have already been out and about on campus, introducing ourselves and engaging with students, and look forward to continuing this with regular drop-in events.

"We're already looking forward to providing support and engaging with students and members of the public at a number of upcoming events, including offering bicycle security marking at the Tour of Britain this Saturday (7 September).

"As ever, we continue to be available to staff and students, on site and in the community, seven days a week and encourage anyone with concerns - no matter how big or small - to raise these with us to resolve."
