Disposal Options for Large Household Items

When it's out with the old and in with the new, Raleigh Solid Waste Services offers two services to assist with the disposal of items too big to fit in a city-issued curbside cart.

Bulky Load Request
A Bulky Load request is for specific items that can go to the landfill but are too large to fit in the garbage cart. Customers can request one (1) single free pickup every 90 days. There are load limits per request, and not all items qualify for Bulky Load collection.

Special Collection Request
A Special Collection request should be used for large items like appliances and furniture that are not eligible for a Bulky Load pickup. A fee is assessed for every four cubic yards collected. One load (4 cubic yards) is approximately the size of four standard-size washing machines or two refrigerators.

When you follow the instructions for the Waste Wizard you receive additional information needed to help determine your load classification.
