Position Announcement Inspector General NCO- AGR (ON BOARD)

SUBJECT: Announcement to fill an AGR (ON BOARD) Assistant IG Position within the
INNG IG Office

Para/Ln 002/05 JFHQ W8AVAA


1. The Inspectors General (IG) is currently accepting applications to fill an AGR (ON
BOARD) Assistant Inspector General position within the Indiana Joint Forces
Headquarters in accordance with (IAW) National Guard Regulation (NGR) 600-200,
paragraph 4-11c.

Any current AGR Indiana Army National Guard Soldier E-7/SFC and
E-6/SSG on the promotion list may apply. IGs are required to inquire into, and
periodically report on, the discipline, efficiency, economy, morale, training, and
readiness of the command. They serve as the eyes, ears, conscience, and voice of the
commander. This is primarily done through Assistance, Inspections, Teach and
Training, and Investigations. The assignment is a three-year tour that entails some TDY,
extra duty assignments, and alternate annual training (AT).


2. Applications can either be nominated by their Chain of Command or volunteer for the
applicant process. See the information below for nomination requirements and the
contents for the applicant packet. Packets can be completed by the unit or the soldier.


3. The Noncommissioned Officer nomination requirements and attributes, IAW
Appendix B of Army Regulation (AR) 20-1 are as follows:
a. Be a citizen of the United States either by birth or naturalization.
b. Not be on assignment instructions.
c. Be high school graduates or have a general education degree equivalency;
An undergraduate degree is desirable.
d. Have 36 months of service remaining or be eligible to extend or reenlist.
e. Display moral attributes and personal traits that demonstrate adherence to Army
Values.
f. Have no record of punishment under UCMJ, Art. 15; conviction by court-martial;
general officer letters of reprimand filed in the official military personnel file; or
derogatory information contained in IG records as screened by the USAIGA.
g. Have no record of civil conviction except for minor offenses.
h. Have an "A" or "B" profile serial code and a "1" under "S" factor for physical
profile. Packets may be submitted if the Soldier has a "2" for post-traumatic stress
disorder due to a deployment and has medical documentation clearing him or her to
perform the duties of an IG. TIG will review these situations on a case-by-case basis.
i. Have broad, contemporary Army experience and background that reflects
outstanding performance; demonstrates potential for future service; and provides
credibility for those Soldiers, Family members, and Civilians who seek IG assistance.
j. Serve no consecutive details as an IG. TIG may approve consecutive details as an
exception to policy with the specific consent of the NCO concerned.
k. Present good military bearing and appearance.
l. Meet body composition requirements as outlined in AR 600-9.
m. Receive a passing score on the Army combat fitness test within the last 6
months.

n. Possess and maintain at least a secret-level security clearance.
o. Remain in a deployable status for all required areas.
p. Not be serving in a military occupational specialty (MOS) immaterial position at
the time of nomination to an IG position.


4. Applicants must, at a minimum, submit the following documents: If required item(s)
are missing from your packet it will be returned to the applicant due to lack of
information:
a. Memorandum for State Inspector General formatted IAW AR 25-50. *See below for requirements* Assistant IG NCO Vacancy Memorandum Instructions
b. Copies of NCO evaluation reports for the last 5 years. If a soldier is missing rated
time, a memorandum for record (MFR) must address the reasons for non-rated time.
c. Copy of Soldier Record Brief (SRB).
d. Medical Protection System (MEDPROS) printout (current within 30 days of
submission).
e. Copy of any physical profile (if applicable).
f. Copy of current DA Form 705.
g. Copy of current DA Form 5500 / DA Form 5501 as applicable, must meet
standards IAW AR 600-9.


5. An Order of Merit List will be created from all packets submitted. The top five will be
notified and appear before the Inspector General for an interview. The Inspector
General will then make final recommendations to The Adjutant General for approval.


6. All packets will need to be submitted by 131600SEPT24 to the Inspector General
NCOIC listed below.

IGs are in the communication business. An IG's ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing is essential to the success of the IG system. As IGs, you will write to inform your intended audience of something they do not already know, or you will write to defend a particular point of view or finding. In either case, IGs must write to transmit their message clearly and concisely and in a manner and style that is clear and generally free of spelling and grammar errors.


The INNG IG office is requiring applicants to complete a memorandum for the State Inspector General, following the requirements listed in AR 25-50. The State Inspector General will use this document to better understand the applicants' capabilities prior to the interview. The memorandum will have at a minimum:
