City of Abilene Announces Temporary Road Closure for Water Main Repairs

The City of Abilene's Water Utilities Department will temporarily close the west service road of Highway 83/84 between Covenant Drive and Antilley Road starting in the early hours of Saturday, September 28, 2024. This closure is necessary to address leaks detected in the water main beneath the roadway.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is aware of the project, and a comprehensive traffic control plan has been developed. Contractor Services will manage the installation and removal of cones and signage to ensure the safety of drivers.

One lane of traffic will reopen upon the completion of the water main repairs on Saturday. However, patchwork on the affected road section will begin Monday morning, and further traffic disruptions may occur until repairs are finalized.

Drivers should note the Antilley Road exit ramp from southbound Treadaway Boulevard will also be closed during this time period.
