October 3, 2024

NATCHITOCHES - Northwestern State University President James Genovese and First Lady Martha Genovese welcomed Louisiana Scholars' College students with a special reception at the president's home, where Genovese emphasized the transformative power of their educational journey and reminded them of their position in a community where excellence and support go hand in hand.

The Scholars' College at NSU is the state's selective-admission honors college that provides highly motivated students with a rigorous, customized honors education firmly grounded in the liberal arts and sciences. The curriculum provides a foundational education for students pursuing careers in law, medicine, engineering, education and more.

"Not everyone can be in the Scholars' program. You are special, you are gifted," Genovese said. He urged students to take advantage of the opportunities provided by Northwestern State and shared personal stories of his own time at Northwestern. "NSU is not just about academic excellence but also about shaping well-rounded individuals who thrive in all aspects of life."

NSU's learning environment fosters a tight-knit community where students are not just numbers but known and supported by faculty and staff, Genovese said.

"You are part of a family here," Genovese said, emphasizing the university's focus on maintaining strong relationships between students and educators.

Fall Scholars' Day, a preview day for high school students interested in learning more about LSC, will take place Saturday, Oct. 12. The open house will welcome all students interested in an honors education.
