Little India Stories - Perfect Scissors

Young Dreamer turned Successful Businesswoman

Since immigrating to Melbourne in 2006, Mrs Kaur, together with her husband, has raised two beautiful children, adopted a new culture, and become a successful businesswoman.

She is the proud owner of popular Indian clothing boutique, Libas by Perfect Scissors, in Melbourne's south eastern suburb, Dandenong. It caters to a dynamic demographic of Indian, Pakistani, African and Australian clients.

Originally from Amritsar in India, Mrs Kaur's passion for textile and design was ignited at a young age. "As a 5-year-old, I used to sit with my Mum whilst she sewed" shared Mrs Kaur.

After completing her Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma in Dress Making in India, her love of fashion was cemented.

Mrs Kaur explained that starting her own business in a new country was no easy feat. However, she shared that it was her fellow traders within the 'Little India' precinct who bridged the gap between work and family life.

"When I moved to Australia, I had no business experience and no extended family to support me. The traders surrounding my store were so helpful and the shopkeepers provided information and support during a time when my family needed it the most".

Mrs Kaur credits the success of Libas by Perfect scissors to her customer-centred approach and wide breadth of services.

"I want my customers to feel heard and seen. I want them to feel comfortable with me and most importantly to trust me and know that I am knowledgeable and experienced enough to help".

Mrs Kaur has completed a second fashion and design qualification in Australia and raised her children whilst navigating life in a foreign land.
