HDCOE Students to Host Annual Fall Fun Respite Care Day

On Saturday, Oct. 19, students from Lee University's Helen DeVos College of Education (HDCOE) will host the fourth annual Fall Fun Respite Care Day, an outdoor activity event for anyone with exceptional needs.

The event will be run by the HDCOE benevolence class, led by Associate Professor Dr. Kimberly Moffett. The four-hour event, held at the Ray Conn Sports Complex on Lee's campus, will feature activities chosen by the participants, including, but not limited to, running at the track, soccer, bowling, and arts and crafts.

"This is a day I look forward to every year," said Moffett. "It allows Lee students to give back to the community by offering a fun service for those who may not have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities, and it allows the community to help Lee students gain more experience on interactions with others."

According to Moffett, many kids with special needs do not have activities outside of school where they can participate in a group setting. This respite care day will provide a time for their parents and caregivers to drop them off for a fun and structured afternoon.

The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to all with exceptional needs. The Ray Conn Sports Complex is located at 2200 Parker Street.
