DuBOIS, Pa. - The Penn State DuBois basketball season is off to a competitive start, with both the men's and women's teams showcasing their skills in early games. The women's team began its campaign on a high note, capturing a commanding victory, while the men's team fought a hard battle in a closely contested home opener.
The Penn State DuBois women's basketball team kicked off its season with an impressive 66-38 win over Apprentice on Nov. 10 at the Beaver Field House at Penn State Beaver. This victory highlighted the depth and energy of the Lions' roster, which features several key returning players and some promising new talent.
Freshman forward Elizabeth Hungiville made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, leading the team with 12 points and 24 rebounds, marking a memorable start to her career. Sophomore forward Natalie Bowser contributed her experience and versatility, scoring 12 points, grabbing seven rebounds, and adding three steals. The team's collective effort on defense was crucial, holding Apprentice to just 22.2% shooting and dominating the boards with a 52-34 rebounding edge.
The women's team looks to carry this momentum into its next game at home against Villa Maria at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The Lions will face their first true away game of the season at Clarion University at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16.
In its home opener on Nov. 8, the Penn State DuBois men's basketball team faced Grove City in an intense, fast-paced game that kept fans on the edge of their seats. Despite their strong performance, the Lions fell short, 88-78, in a game that underscored the team's fighting spirit and potential.
Sophomore guard Kaleb Pryor led the team with 21 points, showcasing his scoring ability and leadership on the floor. The Lions will travel to Westminster on Wednesday, Nov. 13, for an 8 p.m. matchup, followed by a road game at Pitt Bradford at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16.
