Dr. Carlos Flores Jr., an associate professor in Angelo State University's Department of Teacher Education, has been elected secretary of the Texas Association of Teacher Educators (TxATE) and is serving a one-year term.
TxATE is a state organization for college and university faculty in teacher preparation programs. Its purpose is to actively promote best practices for educating and creating quality teacher candidates through professional development and research. As secretary, Flores will attend the organization's state and national conferences, officially record all business meetings, and coordinate TxATE activities.
Dr. Carlos Flores Jr."It is an honor to serve my profession in the position of secretary for the TXATE Board of Directors," Flores said. "I look forward to working with my colleagues across Texas to promote best practices in teacher education preparation programs throughout the state."
A 2002 Angelo State alumnus, Flores teaches special education and social studies methods courses. He joined the ASU faculty in 2015 after spending 15 years as a paraprofessional and special education teacher at middle and high schools in the San Angelo Independent School District.
In addition to teaching, Flores has published multiple research articles in both state and national journals, as well as book chapters and conference proceedings. He has also made numerous presentations on various aspects of special education and teacher preparation at local, state, regional, national and international conferences. He currently serves as past-president and secretary of the Texas chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) and is an active participant in the CEC's Teacher Education Division and Small Special Education Programs Caucus.
Flores earned his bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies with a minor in special education from ASU, and both his master's and doctoral degrees in special education from Texas Tech University.
