Former US Vice President Al Gore and The Climate Reality Project to Virtually Train Climate Champions in the US

Washington D.C. (August 19) - The Climate Reality Project, a nonprofit climate organization founded and chaired by former US Vice President Al Gore, is excited to announce the upcoming 57th Climate Reality Leadership training, to be held virtually for participants from across the United States on October 17-23, 2024.

This training comes as communities across the United States face increasingly devastating impacts from the climate crisis that demand immediate action. From extreme weather events to flooding and drought impacts on agriculture, there is a clear and urgent need to mobilize around climate solutions. This is especially critical in the face of obstructionist tactics from the fossil fuel industry that distort the truth and threaten progress toward a clean energy future. Ahead of a consequential election in November that will determine the trajectory of climate action for the country and within state and local governments, Climate Reality's virtual training will empower participants to seize this moment and drive transformative solutions across the country.

The training offers participants the unique opportunity to hear directly from former Vice President Gore and get a front-row seat to his signature slideshow to learn about our changing climate and the solutions in our hands today. Participants will also hear from an electrifying all-star lineup of scientists, grassroots and climate justice leaders, and policy experts and will explore how they can work together to ignite real, transformative change. The training will emphasize the critical role of ongoing civic engagement in achieving lasting, equitable climate solutions and protecting our communities from the threats posed by fossil fuel interests. By attending, participants will also gain new skills to help them combat climate obstruction, promote effective climate solutions at all levels, and build a healthy, sustainable clean energy future for everyone.

"Thanks to the grassroots advocates who pushed for the adoption of the most significant investment in climate solutions in this history of the world, the United States has made historic progress in addressing the root causes of the climate crisis. Yet, we remain the world's second largest producer of greenhouse gas pollution," said The Climate Reality Project's founder and chairman, former US Vice President Al Gore. "As we approach the second half of this decisive decade for climate action, we need all hands-on deck to accelerate a just transition to clean energy. This training will activate the newest generation of Climate Reality Leaders to harness the collective power of civic engagement and advocacy at this monumental moment for the future of humanity."

Over the course of seven days, attendees will experience live broadcasts presented by Mr. Gore, on-demand and interactive sessions led by expert organizations, and a diverse array of voices in the climate advocacy and policy space, including:

  • Former Vice President Al Gore, Founder and Chairman, The Climate Reality Project
  • Phyllis Cuttino, President and CEO, The Climate Reality Project
  • Jamie Raskin, Member of Congress, US House of Representatives, Lead Democrat on the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability
  • Dr. Marshall Shepherd, Georgia Athletic Association Distinguished Professor, University of Georgia, Director, Atmospheric Sciences Program
  • Dr. Katharine Hayhoe, Professor, Texas Tech University, Chief Scientist, The Nature Conservancy
  • Staci Roberts-Steele, Managing Director and Executive Producer, Yellow Dot Studios; Producer, "Don't Look Up"

Additional high-profile climate speakers will be announced soon.

Through dynamic discussions and opportunities to connect with climate advocates from around the country, attendees will join a global movement of 3.5 million people working to advance climate solutions around the world.
