NOPD Announces Preliminary Crime Statistics for August 11-17, 2024

The following is a weekly report of citywide crime statistics compiled by the NOPD Analytics Unit for the period of August 11-17, 2024.

Notable arrests made

During the listed week, the NOPD also made the following notable arrest(s):

  • On August 13, wanted suspect Jakoz King (black male, DOB; 12-11-2006) of Reserve, La., was arrested in St. John the Baptist Parish in its investigation of a homicide that occurred on August 10, 2024, at the intersection of Bourbon and Saint Louis streets. NOPD Homicide Section detectives collaborated with St. John the Baptist Parish Sherrif's Office to locate King, wanted for second-degree murder, who was taken into custody on August 12 as a fugitive.
  • On August 16, the NOPD announced the arrest of Erick Garrison (black male, DOB: 03-28-1993) in its investigation of a homicide that occurred on August 3, 2024, in the 3100 block of Saint Roch Avenue. NOPD Violent Offender Warrant Squad detectives, along with the U. S. Marshals NOLA Task Force conducted a fugitive investigation and determined that Garrison was in the Dallas, Texas area. Through a collaborative effort with the U.S. Marshals Dallas Task Force, Garrison was located and arrested there on a warrant for one count of second-degree murder.
  • On August 16, the NOPD announced the arrest of Ted "Tezo" Breaux (black male, DOB: 11-02-2001) of Luling, La., in its investigation of a homicide that occurred on August 11, 2024, in the 10800 block of Chef Menteur Highway. Breaux was located and arrested by members of the NOPD's Violent Offender Warrant Squad at a residence in the Seventh District. He was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count of second-degree murder.

Gun arrests (arrests made under LA RS 14:95 and sub-items)

Year to date, the NOPD has made 326 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm. This is a 41-percent decrease compared to 551 arrests made during the same period in 2023.
