November 14, 2024- The Coliseum, a beloved St. Pete landmark, celebrates its 100th anniversary this November. A staple in St. Pete for special events, concerts, dances, weddings, and more since 1924, the Coliseum will celebrate a century of elegance, dance, and memories with free events at the venue, located at 535 4th Ave. N.
"We are so excited to celebrate the Coliseum's 100th Anniversary," said Coliseum Manager Sarah Carvalis. "Thousands of people have made so many great memories in this magical building. I'm honored to have been involved with this historic venue for the last 20 years, and I know it will continue to be a special place for St. Petersburg residents and visitors for decades to come."
Coliseum Open HouseThe community is invited to enjoy a day of activities and music that represent the rich history of the Coliseum. This event is free and all are welcome. Mayor Kenneth T. Welch is scheduled to deliver a proclamation to kick off the event.
1-1:45 p.m. - Swing Time- Dance Lessons
2 - 3:15 p.m. - Les Elgart Orchestra (Big Band)
4 - 5:15 p.m. - The Dwayne White Quartet (of the Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz Association)
6 - 7:15 p.m. - The Impacs - the first rock 'n roll band to play at the Coliseum
Under the direction of Music Director Michael Francis, the Florida Orchestra will play orchestral pop music in a casual setting for audiences of all ages. This event is free, but pre-registration is required due to limited seating. Registration can be found at stpete.org/coliseum100.
The historic Coliseum was built in 1924, and purchased by the City of St. Petersburg in 1989. It has undergone extensive renovations, and the architecture and ambiance create a flexible space to host a variety of events, making it one of the Tampa Bay area's most unique multi-use facilities.
