To the Fair Oaks Ranch Community,

We want to share some changes in the leadership at the Fair Oaks Ranch Police Department. Chief Tim Moring is retiring after serving as a fixture in our community for nearly two decades. Chief Moring joined the department as a patrol officer in 2006 and was named chief in 2020.

Chief Moring committed countless hours to the department and to this community. We recognize him for his years of service to this City, its residents, and staff. We also wish him well as he takes this next step to refocus on and enjoy more time with his family. While his absence will be noticed, we recognize that over the last couple of decades he is now ready for some much overdue rest and relaxation! We know that whatever opportunities Chief Moring may explore in the future will be a testament to his long career.

We are also pleased to announce that Todd Smith will join the department effective Monday, August 5 as our interim Chief of Police. Chief Smith most recently retired as an Assistant Chief in Austin.

Chief Smith retired after a 25-year career with the Austin Police Department where he oversaw patrol and special operations and taught classes in Servant Leadership. He began his career with the Austin Police Department in January of 1995 rising from patrol officer to assistant chief. He has held leadership roles in every critical area of the department from patrol to community outreach, Internal Affairs and SWAT team leader.

Chief Smith told us, "I am looking forward to collaborating with the men and women in the department who have an impressive record of making Fair Oaks Ranch one of the safest communities in Texas. Their record speaks to their dedication and hard work as well as their knowledge and involvement in the community. As a servant leader it is my job to help make sure they have the tools to continue to excel."

The dedicated officers of the Fair Oaks Ranch Police Department remain unwavering in their commitment to protecting and serving our community. SafeWise consistently has ranked our community among the 50 safest cities in the state with multiple top 10 appearances. These honors reflect the values of our community and the dedication of the men and women who serve us in law enforcement. Our police department is recognized for Best Practices by the Texas Police Chiefs Association (TPCA). Our officers exemplify involvement in the community with programs such as Cafeteria Cops, National Night Out, Trunk or Treat, Back the Badge 5K and the Junior Police Academy.

Please join me in congratulating Chief Moring on his retirement and welcoming Chief Smith to the community.

Sincerely,

Scott M. Huizenga City Manager
