NOPD Arrests Suspect in Fatal Hit and Run Investigation

Today (August 2, 2024), the NOPD arrested Jude West (white male, DOB: 10-13-1992) in the investigation of a fatal hit-and-run vehicle crash that occurred on July 12, 2024, at the intersection of Earhart Boulevard and North Claiborne Avenue.

At about 10:01 p.m. on July 12, an adult male was attempting to cross the intersection on foot when he was allegedly struck by a gold Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. After the impact, the vehicle reportedly continued travel, not stopping to render aid to victim. Witnesses notified NOPD and EMS, which arrived on scene to render aid. The victim was transported to a local hospital via EMS but was later declared deceased.

Through the course of the investigation, NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit investigators were able to identify the suspect vehicle. With assistance from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, investigators located and seized the vehicle in Jefferson Parish.

Today, the owner of the vehicle - identified as West - contacted NOPD today and submitted himself for questioning. Upon questioning, detectives determined West to have been operating the suspect vehicle at the time of the crash.

West was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count of hit-and-run driving with death or serious injury, as well as on one count of obstruction of justice.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
