Espaillat Leads Congressional Call for Executive Action to Designate Temporary Protected Status for Ecuadorians in Response to Deadly Armed Conflict Taking Place in Ecuador

WASHINGTON, DC -- Representatives Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), in collaboration with TPS for Ecuador National Coalition, Hispanic Federation, Voces Latinas, Jackson Heights Immigrant Center, and MomsRising are organizing the press conference tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at the U.S. Capitol to urge TPS for Ecuador.

With the looming threats of mass deportations under the upcoming administration and the deadliest armed conflict in history taking place in Ecuador, organizations and elected officials are gathering to call on Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and the Biden administration to designate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Ecuadorians residing in the United States.

Background: Ecuadorian immigrants who lived in the United States for decades will be at risk of being torn from their families and sent back to dangerous conditions. Many families fleeing this extreme violence face a life-or-death situation if deported, and that is why the Biden Administration must take action to protect thousands from deportation and family separations.
