GCSU has 55 student-athletes earn D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award

WESTLAKE, Ohio | Fifty-five Georgia College & State University student-athletes have been recognized by the Division 2 Athletics Directors Association with their D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award.

GCSU had 23 repeat honorees, including Anna Agi (women's cross country) who received the award for the fourth consecutive year.

AJ Mathis (baseball), Callie Miller (women's volleyball), Ashton Morrison (women's tennis), Enzo Sergi (men's tennis) and Max Sheppard (men's golf) each received the award for the third year in a row, while Kaitlyn Anders (softball), Tucker Balch (men's cross country), Sydney Charles (women's soccer), Divina Checo (softball), Shradha Chhabra (women's tennis), Gabe Cizek (men's tennis), Blane Davis (men's golf), Aralyn Everett (women's soccer), Alexa Geary (women's basketball), Rachel Machovec (women's volleyball), Brooke Mooney (women's cross country), Jillian Muncus (women's cross country), Brooke Roberts (women's volleyball), Chiara Santoro (women's tennis), Jana Shellhorse (softball), Myra Strickland (women's basketball) and Jada Warren (women's basketball) each received the award for the second consecutive year.

Women's soccer led the way with 12 student-athletes, while baseball added eight and softball had seven more. Women's volleyball added six, while women's basketball had five. Women's cross country and women's tennis had four student-athletes each, while men's tennis had three. Men's golf, men's basketball and men's cross country had two each to earn the award.

The Academic Achievement Awards, in its 17th year, is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level. In total, 19,774 student-athletes from 192 institutions were recognized for the 2023-24 Academic Achievement Awards. It was the largest number of student-athletes being nominated since the award program's inception. The Peach Belt Conference had 565 student-athletes earn the Academic Achievement Award.

To receive the Academic Achievement Award, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.
