GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Clayton County

Clayton County, GA (June 24, 2024) - At the request of the Clayton County Police Department, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Clayton County, Georgia. Hakim Al-Nas, age 18, died in the incident. No officers were injured in this incident.

The preliminary information indicates at about 6:30 p.m., Clayton County P.D. dispatch received a 911 call in reference to a suspicious person at an abandoned home located in the 3200 block of Chippewa Drive. When officers arrived on scene, they saw four people behind the home. As officers approached them, Al-Nas tried to run away and one of the responding officers shot him multiple times. Al-Nas was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Agents recovered a handgun from the scene.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation of the officer involved shooting. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Clayton County District Attorney's Office for review.
