LITTLE ROCK - The City of Little Rock will open a cooling center at East Little Rock Community Center on Sunday for residents seeking relief from the oppressive heat. The Center's hours will be from noon to 6 p.m.

The City's community centers will remain open as regularly scheduled today and Saturday. Residents may take a break from the heat at a neighborhood community center until 6 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Little Rock community centers are typically closed on Sunday, but the East Little Rock Community Center will be available Sunday because of the likely extreme heat.

East Little Rock Community Center is located at 2500 E. Sixth St.

The following locations are open today and Saturday:

  • Dunbar Community Center, 1001 W. 16th St.
  • Southwest Community Center, 6401 Baseline Road
  • Stephens Community Center, 3720 W. 18th St.
  • West Central Community Center, 8616 Colonel Glenn Road
The City of Little Rock cooling centers are open to any residents who need a safe, comfortable space out of the weather.

On extremely hot summer days, residents are asked to: check on neighbors (especially those over 65, children under 4 or anyone with a disability or medical condition), never leave children or pets alone in parked vehicles; schedule outdoor activities to avoid periods of peak temperatures; limit time spent outside; make sure pets have an adequate supply of water; and stay hydrated, avoiding liquids with high amounts of sugar.
